Vibrant Communities
We know we all must address climate change, reduce our dependency and consumption of oil, shutdown unsafe nuclear energy sites, and aggressively develop safe, affordable and environmentally friendly energy resources. We are positioned in this region to be a national leader in this area. We have a history of invention, self sufficiency, and activism. If we can come together, share solutions, develop a 10 year investment and implementation plan, and provide consistent leadership and urgency, we will solve our energy challenges.
We have a wonderful landscape, water supply, air quality, natural habitats, and natural resources. We have people, businesses, leaders, and organizations who respect, value and are excellent stewards of our spectacular environment in our district. Coexistence with, respect of, prosperity from, and enjoyment of these treasures must always be a foundation for our lives and future.
I have lived and benefited from both the urban experience and rural experience. They are extremely different and equally valued. Here we are blessed with a rural experience. We need to understand the value this brings to our lives and the potential it has. There is, again, a movement of people who seek a simplier life and are moving to new places to achieve this. Our district can be the destination location for business, tourism and living. This rural experience is precious and of limited supply. Developing our downtowns, protecting wildlife and natural habitats, preservation and access to open spaces, developing our arts, increasing our employment and growth opportunities, keeping our education strong and preserving our New England culture and landmarks will make our rural experience one to be celebrated and shared.
